Fundraiser in Honor of Miner Killed on Job

By Loreto Cruz III

WILLIAMSON CO. -- It's been nearly two months since a local miner was killed on the job. Family and friends came together on Saturday to celebrate the life of Daniel Payne.

The group held a fundraiser in Johnston City. The money raised will go to help Daniel's son, Trent, who was born a month after his father died.
Daniel's sister, Samantha, says seeing the support really helps ease the pain.
"Today's the best day I've had since my brother passed away," said Payne. "Just having everybody come out, I've cried. But it's been joyful tears, not mournful tears. It's a good change."
Payne adds that she has constantly been contacted people who want to help.
