Case Continues Against Former Hurst Police Chief
MARION -- The criminal case against the former Hurst police chief will move forward.
Ron Harvel, 50, of Johnston City, is charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and violating an order of protection.
Harvel was arrested in late September after authorities say he was found with a loaded handgun near his estranged wife's home in Marion.
The arrest came less than three months after Harvel's resignation from the Hurst Police Department. City leaders told News 3 in July that Harvel turned in his letter of resignation just an hour before a council meeting to discuss disciplinary actions against him.
During a preliminary hearing Monday in Williamson County Court, probable cause was found for the criminal case to move forward.
Harvel has pleaded not guilty. He remains in the Williamson County Jail.
