Bus League Ball Blog
MARION -- In minor league baseball there's a lot of down time. Usually players spend 12-plus hour bus rides watching movies or sleeping but Southern Illinois Miners pitcher Ryan Quigley is the exception.
Quigley started writing about his experiences with the Miners in a new blog, 'Bus League Ball Blog.' It gives fans a "behind the scenes" look into the life of players at the lower levels of professional baseball.
"People always ask you what baseball's all about, especially in the minor leagues," Quigley said. "They look at it and see major leaguers making all this money and stuff. Sometimes it's kind of hard to explain it to a family member or somebody who's not familiar with baseball, so I kind of use it as an outlet to touch upon those type of things and so far it's been great."
"He doesn't really talk about us as much as he talks about the life," Miners manager Mike Pinto said. "I think for fans that are unaware of what our life is like on a daily basis, the ones that get here at seven o'clock and think we just got here, maybe hit a little bit in the cage, they don't know what this life is all about."
