27th Annual All-Star Classic

CARTERVILLE -- The top high school seniors met in Carterville Sunday for the 27th annual All-Star game.

The day started with a 3-point contest won by Chester senior Jake Lochhead.

Jake Wood, from Centralia, won the slam dunk contest.

Thompsville's Quinton Henson was the recipient of the Shawn Oldani Award. Oldani represented Christopher in the 1997 All-Star Classic. He has since passed away and the award is given to the player who displays Oldani's traits of hustle, tough play, and sportsmanship.

The Ron Herrin Award was given to NCOE senior Briar Short. The award, named after the late Olney Tigers coach, is given to the player who best exemplifies the love of the game, leadership, sportmanship, and the friendship and goodwill Coach Herrin displayed.

The teams were coached by Ziegler-Royalton head coach Matt Morgan and Crab Orchard coach Jon Brown.

Team Morgan was lead in scoring by Justin Prewitt, from Meridian, with 27 points. Jake Wood lead Team Brown with 19.

Team Morgan won the game 135-105.

Jacob Towers of Christopher took home MVP honors for Team Brown while Lucas Stone from Newton was the Team Morgan MVP.
