Paducah Man Arrested for Burglary, Tampering with Evidence
PADUCAH -- A Paducah man has been arrested on charges of burglary and tampering with evidence.
On Tuesday, the McCracken County Sheriff's Department responded to a burglary investigation in Paducah. The victim stated that on Wednesday the suspect, Jason N. Chapman, 34, came to her house to look at a vehicle she had for sale. She later discovered that her safe inside her residence, containing thousands of dollars' worth of bonds, jewelry, and various other important documents and paperwork, was missing.
Detectives believe Chapman was friends with some of the victim's relatives, who may have accidentally let Chapman know about the safe and contents.
Chapman initially denied any and all involvement while intentionally providing detectives with an incorrect home address. A search his actual address revealed the victim's safe and partially burnt documents that were originally located inside the safe.
Chapman later admitted to entering the victim's residence through a back window and removing the safe while she believed he was outside looking at the vehicle. He also went on to admit that he attempted to burn the unwanted documents and paperwork in efforts to destroy any evidence.
Chapman was arrested and is being held at the McCracken County Regional Jail.
