ALTO PASS -- Dozens of people and their animal companions made it out to Alto Pass Sunday afternoon for the second annual Dawg Daze of Summer Super Shelter Spectacular.

Local businesses teamed together to host the event at Alto Vineyards. It featured live music, plenty of food vendors, as well as live and silent auctions for donated goods.

A large portion of the money raised will go to help support different shelters and animal control units around southern Illinois. Organizers say the money is sorely needed at these places.

"These shelters need a lot of help, and it's wonderful to get them all together for this event and distribute the money that we make evenly to
each one, and let them use it where they need it," explains event organizer Corey Peters.

Organizers say 90% of the money raised will go directly to eight different shelters throughout the region.
