Carrier Mills Park Vandalized
CARRIER MILLS -- Police are trying to track down the vandals who hit a community park in Saline County. The playground at Washington Street Park in Carrier Mills was damaged last month. Vandals ripped out railings and knocked steps loose on the equipment.
The equipment has only been there for eight months. A $30,000 grant from Dr. Pepper and Snapple paid for the gear and more than 30 volunteers assembled it.
Now, their biggest piece of equipment is in shambles. It'll cost $300 to $500 to replace the damaged railing and steps.
"We have worked really hard and we worked really hard that day to get things going," said volunteer and life long resident Amy Doty.
Doty is a life long resident of Carrier Mills. She grew up playing there and her children did the same. Doty wants the playground to last.
"We put in a lot of handwork just to have somebody go and mess it up, that's horrible," Doty said.
The Carrier Mills Parks Department will have to pay for the repairs.
Police are increasing patrols and asking neighbors to keep an eye on who's using the park and report any more incidents.
