Local Company to Appear on Extreme Makeover Home Edition
PERRY CO. - A home builder out of Pinckneyville will be featured on national television, appearing on the hit TV show Extreme Makeover Home Edition.
The show is heading to Joplin Missouri next month to help families affected by the May tornado that left 160 dead and thousands of homes destroyed.
Contempri Homes in Pinckneyville was shocked when they received a call from producers at ABC, asking them to take part in a special edition of Extreme Makeover; building seven homes in seven days.
While a lot of the details are being kept under wraps until the episode airs, Contempri Homes gave a sneak peek into how they're going to build a dream home in less than two days.
"At first we were a little trepidatious; excited shortly thereafter, to get to be a part of something that's bigger than just us," says Jeremy Wildermuth, General Manager at Contempri Homes.
Contempri Homes will build one of their off-site stick homes to producers’ specifications. It's something new for the show.
"They also indicated to us they'd like to highlight the different types of building methods," says Wildermuth.
The home will be built in Pinckneyville, inside the Contempri factory. Construction will start at midnight October 8th and it has to complete within 36 hours .
"It's a ranch home and I really can't say too much more than that," laughs Wildermuth.
Company leaders had to sign a 200-page contract, including keeping the building plans a secret.
They've also made several trips to Joplin for planning, but company leaders say despite the effort, they're glad to take part.
"Especially after visiting Joplin and seeing what it's like down there, and what happened to the people in that area," says Wildermuth.
Contempri Homes is looking for volunteers to help from October 8th through the 10th, and says no one who wants to help will be turned down.
