METROPOLIS -- Massac County's football team is under new direction this season. Former assistant coach, Ryan Lott is now leading the Patriots program.

Last season, the Patriots finished the year at a mark of 3-6. They have missed the playoffs the past four years, but the team hopes to make a return to the playoffs this season.

Lott is hoping to bring balance to the offense, while strengthening his defense.

"I was the offensive line coach here last year and I definitely like to run the ball and we have some pretty good running backs but we have two really good quarterbacks with game experience," said Lott. "I think we definitely improved offensively last year and sometimes we struggled defensively, and we are putting a new emphasis on getting better on both sides of the ball."

The Patriots kick-off the regular season on August 29th when they travel to face Freeburg.
