JONESBORO -- The Carterville Lions erupted for 11 runs in the fifth inning and went on to beat Massac County 12-6 to win the Anna-Jonesboro 2A Softball Regional championship.

The Lady Patriots held a 3-1 lead before the Lions sent 15 batters to the plate, with three of those hitting homeruns.

Kylee Rock's two-run homer tied the game at 3-3.  Four pitches later, Avery English made it back to back to homers to give the Lions a 4-3 lead.

Carterville continued to pound the ball in the fifth.  Freshman Megan Barrett's bases clearing double put the Lions up 8-3.

Then English wrapped up the scoring with her second homerun of the inning, a three-run shot to make it 12-3.  English finished 4-4 with two homers, 4 rbis, and also picked up the win pitching.

Megan Moon also homered earlier in the game for Carterville.

Massac County scored three runs late but could get no closer, falling 12-6.

Carterville advances to the Johnston City Sectional to play Pinckneyville next week.
