Webber Township Books State Tournament Ticket
MARION -- The Webber Township Trojans made history Monday by beating Windsor/Stew-Stras 8-6 and advancing to the state tournament for the first time in school history.
Webber held a 2-0 lead after 2 innings when Windsor exploded for 4 runs in the top of the 3rd. The Trojans responded though with 2 of their own in the bottom of the inning, tying the game at 4.
Windsor took the lead again in the 5th 5-4 only to see Webber rally again in the bottom of the inning with 3 runs making it 7-5.
The Trojans added another in the 6th to lead 8-5. Windsor tried to rally in the 7th but couldn't complete the comeback, as Webber held on for the 8-6 win, earning a trip to the 1A final four.
"Our goal was to win regionals so we got through that and our goal was to win a sectional semifinal, one step at a time." says head coach Sam Root "Now we're just going to compete and we're going to try to win a semifinal game."
After the win senior Gage Raudenbush said, "We had people saying we can't, you're not going to go, you can't make it to state, there's no way. You only got 11 strong but I love proving people wrong."
"It's definitely something to brag about," according to senior Chris Bush "I'm going to remember this for the rest of my life for sure."
Webber advances to the state tournament in Peoria where they will face New Athens at 10:00 Friday morning.
