Mt. Vernon Football Looking To Build Off Last Season's Success
MT. VERNON -- The Mt. Vernon Rams finished last year with a 7-4 overall record. It was the first time the team had qualified for the playoffs since 2008.
This season, the Rams return eight starters on offense and seven on defense.
Mount Vernon's head coach Jared Shaner wants his leaders to step forward and not be satisfied by last season's success.
"Last year was an exciting season for us as we made the second round of the playoffs," said Shaner. "We have been talking about that since the winter weight program started and how we are going to build on that and not being satisfied with where we were but taking steps forward and I think our kids and coaches have bought into that."
"We have a lot of seniors coming back," said Mt. Vernon senior quarterback Dylan Reeves. "We know that it feels like being in the playoffs and we know what it takes to get there. So, we are just working twice as hard as we did last year and making sure we can get right back to where we left off last season."
The Rams kick-off the regular season on August 29th, when they play host to Taylorville. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
