Semi Fire Shuts Down Part of Interstate

WASHINGTON COUNTY -- Illinois State Police say a truck carrying food caught fire on Interstate 64 Monday evening.

ISP Spokesperson Joey Watson says troopers received a call of a semi on fire at 5:35 p.m. Monday.

The fire happened on Interstate 64 eastbound at mile marker 61.

The cause of the fire hasn't been determined. Both co-drivers were not injured. The tractor and trailer are both considered a total loss.

The right lane of eastbound I-64 was shut down for several hours as crews cleared the scene.

WASHINGTON COUNTY -- Part of Interstate 64 in Washington County will be closed most of Monday night after a semi fire.

No word what caused the fire, but video from a News 3 viewer shows the extensive damage to the truck. Officials say one lane of 64 eastbound is shut down a few miles east of the Ashley exit.

State police are handling the cleanup and investigation.
