Cardinals Clinch 3-Peat at S-V
SESSER -- Perhaps the good folks at Sesser may need to rename their tournament the Woodlawn Invitational.
The Cardinals won their third straight and fourth championship in the last five years Monday, beating Goreville 65-56.
It marked the Blackcats third straight year of losing to Woodlawn in the S-V finals.
The Cardinals built a 15-point first half lead, only to watch Goreville climb back within 29-21 at the half.
Woodlawn extended the lead back to 12 at 37-25 in the third, but again the Blackcats rallied. Zeke Snell had four buckets including a two-handed rim rattler helping pull Goreville within 41-38 after three.
The Cardinals were clutch from the line in the fourth and pulled away for a 65-56 win.
Owens led all scorers with 17-- all in the second half. Dayton Tripp led Goreville with 16.
