ALS Ice Bucket Challenge in Southern Illinois

By WSIL Reporter

WSIL -- The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge has people across the country freezing for a good cause.

By now, you've probably seen the social media craze called the "Ice Bucket Challenge." It's a fundraiser for the ALS Association.

So far, the campaign has raised more than four million dollars to help fund research for Lou Gehrig's disease.
Over the weekend members of the Carterville Police Department completed the challenge.  They did it in honor of Don "Donut" Morgan.  The Herrin man was diagnosed with ALS last year.
Then on Thursday,  the YMCA of Jefferson County is hosting a challenge at 5:00 p.m. It's in honor of Terry Swinnen, who is also living with ALS.
Our own Meteorologist Ashley Smith accepted the challenge from a family member.
The rules are up for interpretation but if you accept the ice bucket challenge you must dump ice water on yourself and donate $10 to ALS. If you do not dump water on yourself, you must donate $100 to ALS.
