Salukis Stumble in Hinson's Homecoming

By WSIL Sports

SPRINGFIELD, MO. -- SIU men's basketball coach Barry Hinson's homecoming didn't go as planned Sunday night.

It was only the second time Hinson had been back to Springfield since being fired after nine seasons as head coach. Donning a new shade of maroon, Hinson and the Salukis lost to his former team, 70-59.

Missouri State (3-10, 1-0) broke an eight-game losing streak with the win. It was the Bears' first win over a Division 1 team all year.

SIU (7-5) made a season high eight 3-pointers but allowed the Bears to make 10-of-17 from beyond the arc. MSU came into the game shooting just 26% from distance. They shot 59% Sunday night.

Kendal Brown-Surles led the Dawgs with 12 points. Freshman Anthony Beane (11) was the only other Saluki to score in double-digits.

Sophomore forward Dantiel Daniels went down at 17-minute mark in the second half with an ankle injury. He didn't return and Hinson said he's doubtful for Salukis next game Wednesday night at SIU Arena against Bradley.
