Salukis Rally But Fall Short Against Austin Peay

CLARKSVILLE -- SIU men's basketball team fell just short of a win on Tuesday night in a 72-70 loss against the Austin Peay Governors.

The Governors held a 35-32 lead at halftime. In the second half, Austin Peay jumped out to a 17 point lead. SIU was able to rally back, sparked by the performance of Desmar Jackson. He scored 29 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in the contest. However, Jackson fouled out late in the second half.

SIU's Jalen Pendleton tied the game at 68-68 when he sank one of his two free throw attempts. SIU made just 14-23 free throw attempts in the game.

Austin Peay's Travis Betran sank a jumper and got fouled in the final seconds of the second half. The basket gave the Governors the lead for good.

SIU dropped to 0-3 on the season while Austin Peay improved to 2-1. SIU returns to action on Thursday when the Salukis play host to Missouri S&T at 7:05 p.m.
