Salukis Hold Off Shockers

By WSIL Sports

CARBONDALE -- The Baseball Salukis did something Friday they had never done before: beat Wichita State at home in the first game of a series.

The Dawgs took advantage of three Shockers' errors to score four runs in the third. Austin Montgomery added a solo homer in the sixth for a 5-0 lead, which seemed like more than enough for Cody Forsythe.

Forsythe, who set a school record with his 45th career start, was perfect through five and two-thirds innings.

Wichita tallied two off Forsythe in the seventh and two more off Todd Eaton in the eighth, but the Salukis held on for the 5-4 win.

With the win, SIU improves to 3-10 in conference play. The two teams will continue their series Saturday at 2:00, weather permitting.
