SIU Football Welcomes 28 Recruits

By WSIL Sports

CARBONDALE -- It was national signing day for college football teams across the nation on Wednesday.

The 28 member class is split offensively and defensively. Of the 14 offensive players break down to three quarterbacks, a running back, four receivers and six linemen.

Then, 12 of the 14 defensive players are either linebackers or defensive backs.

Lennon said that due to the team's depth, most of this year's recruits could red shirt.

Now, five local athletes hope to make an impact on the field for the Salukis soon.

Carbondale's Shamarc Bursey and Paducah Tilghman's Darrius Spivey-Nunn signed their letters of intent to play for the Salukis.

Also joining the team as preferred walk-ons are Carterville teammates Michael Aschemann and Phillip Frangello and Marion's Brant Hill.

SIU announced its 2014 recruiting class to the public and media in a press conference held by Saluki head coach Dale Lennon.
