A Tall Task for SIU Basketball

By WSIL Sports

CARBONDALE -- It has been a rocky start for new SIU men's basketball coach Barry Hinson and his staff.

Taking over a program that saw its worst season in school history, the team has been decimated by injuries and other off-the-court issues.

Hinson did not go into detail about the injuries but did say sophomore guard Josh Swan is out 2-3 weeks, forward Dantiel Daniels will sit out at least five weeks and Trico product Chase Heins won't play for three months. That does not include Diamond Taylor, who was suspended for legal problems.

Taylor and Desmar Jackson have court dates later this week for July arrests after accusations of stealing bikes on campus.

Hinson says the thin roster has provided plenty of opportunities for others to step up.

The Salukis first scrimmage is this Saturday against Lincoln (Mo.).
