SIU Athletes Raise Money for Charity

By WSIL Sports

CARBONDALE -- SIU athletes showed off their talents away from the playing field Thursday night.

Members from the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) raised money for the Carbondale Boys and Girls Club by hosting a talent show.

Athletes paid three dollars for admission, then had a chance to buy raffle tickets for donated prizes from local businesses.

Participants included the women's basketball team and members of the women's track and field team. The throwers from the men's track and field team had an eating competition.

SAAC vice-president Cameron James says getting athletes together away from the playing field is always fun, especially when it's for a good cause.

This was the fourth year for the event. This year's talent show raised about $1,000 to help kids in Jackson County.
