Neighborhood Co-op Farm Crawl
WSIL -- Folks had the chance Saturday to get a lesson in various farming techniques that local farmers use to grow their crops.
The lesson is all part of a farm crawl that featured more than 20 farms spanning across six southern Illinois counties. The tour was self-guided, allowing participants to visit whichever farms they were most interested in.
Organizers say it's a great experience for locals to see exactly where their fresh produce is coming from.
"A lot of people are curious about this kind of thing and this is the type of event where people can go to the farm, they can meet the farmers and their families, and they can get a first-hand look and sometimes a first-hand experience on what it takes to do the things that they want to do," says Jerry Bradley with the Neighborhood Co-op.
All of the farms featured on the tour sell their local produce at the Co-op grocery store in Carbondale.
