Community Health Groups Hold Insurance Open Houses
JEFFERSON COUNTY --One community health group is trying to make the health insurance enrollment process under the Affordable Care Act easier to understand.
Christopher Rural Health has been holding open houses across southern Illinois. They were in Mt. Vernon Wednesday night answering people's questions and helping them sign up.
Insurance Counselor Terra Hill says the enrollment process takes about an hour. Even if people don't have that time to spare, they can stop by the open houses and get more information on enrolling themselves.
"We can tell them what to anticipate," said Hill. "We can talk about their income levels, where they might fit in, what they might be eligible for, because not everyone is actually going to go to the marketplace."
The glitches with healthcare marketplace have been frustrating for many people coming to the events and for the counselors. However, they have been able to assist some people with enrolling using a paper application.
The Medicaid online program has also been working with no glitches.
If you want more information on the next open house or want to set up an appointment with a counselor, you can call 1-800-408-7351.
