MOUNDS --Rivals clashed in the Class 1A Meridian regional final where the Bobcats come out winners as Meridian topped Cairo for the regional championship 76-58, Friday night.

The host Bobcats were able to not only capture the regional championship at home in front of a packed gym but they captured the championship by beating their heated rival by double digits and are now three wins away from the state semifinals. Meridian and Cairo battled back and fourth in the first quarter but the Bobcats went on a 18-5 run to start the second quarter and were able fly away from the Pilots.

Meridian will head to Junction for the 1A sectional semifinals where they take on Andrew Drone and the Hawks from Gallatin County, who beat Carrier Mills 57-48 to advance and will look to pound Meridian in front of the home crowd.

Tip off is set for Tuesday night at 7:30pm at Gallatin County High School.
