Shawnee Forest Reopens
SALINE COUNTY-- The shutdown closed the Shawnee Forest for 16 days. Most areas of the park are now reopened to visitors.
Many federally funded forest preserves were blocked with barricades, barring anyone from entering. Most of them are gone now.
Employees were given 24 hour notice to return to work, so only some were on the job Thursday. Amanda Patrick is one that is happy to be back.
"Had a lot of phone calls, visitors, lot of people seeking information thats one of our main goals today, to get facilities open," Patrick said.
They have a long road ahead to catch up on all the work missed in the past two weeks. Employees will be paid for their time off.
