Unsung Hero: Haiti Missionaries
MARION -- A life changing trip. That's how some local teens describe their summer mission trip to Haiti.
"I used to think, oh poor me, and I go to Haiti and they don't have clothes and I really think that I realize that I'm so blessed," said 13-year-old Haley Craft.
"I've become a whole lot more grateful for everything I have in my life," said Marion High School senior Kaleb Cutsinger.
Haley Craft, her brother Josh Craft, and Kaleb Cutsinger are part of a small group from the Third Baptist Church in Marion who attended a mission trip in Haiti over the summer.
"It changes you forever, you fall in love with the people of Haiti the first day," said Haley.
Haley is in 8th grade at Marion junior high. While in Haiti the group helped lead a vacation bible school for kids.
"Just being able to talk and play with her even though we had no clue what each other were saying, laughing and playing," said Haley.
Marion High School senior Josh Craft helped build the foundation for a home in Haiti.
"We take for granted roads, cars, electricity, a working shower," said Josh, "they don't have any of that."
The group had several opportunities to walk around the city and meet the locals.
"When we went out in the community to share the gospel they were out on their doorstep waiting for us and they were pulling out their
plastic lawn chairs which was all that they had for us to sit in," said Haley.
Kaleb Cutsinger helped organize songs and music for VBS.
"The children, really all they desire is to be loved on, to have the attention of people," said Kaleb.
Kaleb says the Haitian people would share what little food they had with the group.
"Some days all they will get is a bundle of sugar cane that fell off the back of the truck," said Kaleb.
Third Baptist Church says they're planning to return to Haiti next year. They're most looking forward to seeing the children who they fell in love with while serving in Haiti.
"Seeing the smiles on their faces you know you're changing lives," said Haley.
"I'm also looking forward to seeing the kids again, just to be able to love on them again, that's what I'm looking forward to," said Kaleb.
