FDA Issues New Warning About Jerky Pet Treats

By WSIL Manager

WSIL -- The FDA is issuing a new health warning about jerky pet treats imported from China.

The agency reports 1,800 new cases of pet illnesses since its last warning in October.

The FDA says the majority of treats were from China with flavors that include chicken, duck and sweet potato.

Since 2007, the agency has received approximately 4,800 reports of pet illnesses and more than 1,000 dog deaths connected to the treats.

The FDA says it has tested the treats for salmonella, pesticides and various other toxins but has not found a cause of the illnesses. The agency continues to investigate.
