Restaurant Report Card: Oct. 7, 2013
WSIL -- Tequila's in Harrisburg lands the bottom spot this week with a 79, which was the lowest score in Saline County last month.
Five of the lost points came from four violations related to the roof. The report notes lots of grease and dead birds around the intake and exhaust hood units and the possibility that could leak back into the kitchen. The inspector asked that food be protected from overhead leaks, and the entire premises of the restaurant be maintained in a sanitary manner.
None of those violations were critical. The only critical problem was raw meat being stored above ready-to-eat foods.
When the health department returned a few weeks later, everything was corrected, and Tequila's received a score of 99. Management says the initial score was much lower than their usual marks, and the building's owner is now fixing the roof.
Pinckneyville's El Jalisco earned an 85 on its most recent check.
There were two critical violations here. The inspector spotted a "heavy presence" of flies in the kitchen and chemicals stored with food products. The floor underneath the kitchen equipment and in the walk-in cooler was dirty, the handle of the ice scoop needed to be kept out of the ice bin, and the dumpster lids were left open.
Courtside Grill and Bar in Pinckneyville received a 93.
There were no critical issues, but the door handles needed to be cleaned and sanitized, some food in the refrigerators wasn't covered. and a sink in the dish area was leaking.
The inspector also noted "all personnel items need to be kept separate from the food prep area."
It was a 95 for Mackie's Pizza in Harrisburg. Parts of the ice machine and the coolers needed to be cleaned, and there were some holes in the walls that had to be repaired.
And topping the list this week, Cummares Italian Restaurant in Murphysboro with a perfect score of 100.
