WSIL -- Imagine being a prisoner in your own body. That's what it's like for people with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis or ALS.

Formerly known as, Lou Gehrig's disease, ALS is a disease of the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement.

Some local women have started the ALS Social Group for people with the disease and caregivers.

They will meet for the first time on Monday, June 16., at 6:00 p.m. at University Mall in Carbondale.

Call 618-713-7069 for more information or check out www.alsa-stl.org.
