DU QUOIN -- The Illinois Department of Agriculture has named Shannon Woodworth the new manager of the Du Quoin State Fair.

In a press release issued Friday, the department calls Woodworth, 47, a "familiar face at the fairgrounds" since 1999.

"Shannon is very knowledgeable and passionate about the fair and understands the importance of agriculture to our heritage," Agriculture Director Bob Flider said. "His work has brought hundreds of thousands of dollars in business sponsorships to the fair and I believe he possesses the right skills to ensure the fair remains a showcase for Southern Illinois."

Woodworth replaces longtime fair manager John Rednour, Junior. Rednour stepped down from his position in January to become chairman of the board at Du Quoin State Bank.

Woodworth will be making $71,000 per year. According to state salary records, Rednour made $91,200 in 2013. The fair manager's postion is not required to be posted because it is an appointed position that serves at the pleasure of the state ag director.
