Complaint Filed Against Williamson County State's Attorney
Williamson Co. -- Illinois's disciplinary agency for lawyers has filed a complaint against Williamson County State's Attorney Chuck Garnati. The complaint alleges misconduct in Garnati's handling of the Marcus Marshall murder trial back in 2011, where Marshall was sentenced to 85 years. He was granted a new trial after an appellate court said Garnati showed racial prejudice during his closing arguments in the case.
The disciplinary agency accuses Garnati of improperly seeking a conviction, rather than seeking justice, as well as alluding to matters not supported by admissible evidence.
There will be a hearing early next year on the case.
