MARION -- Illinois' longest running fair kicks off in just a few days. Thousands are expected at the Williamson County Fair.

Organizers hope to draw bigger crowds this year, with new changes added. Changes include a new Carnival company.

Fair Vice-President Gary Pearson says the event will be more affordable, too. Prices for carnival armbands are $5 cheaper. Last year they were $20. Free events are scheduled almost every day.

Pearson says they are working to improve the fair every year.

"We want to make sure that what we bring in here fits good here in southern Illinois and is safe. And just good family entertainment."

Vendors and the rides will be set up this weekend. The carnival and grandstand concerts start on Tuesday and run through next Saturday.
