WSIL-- Jefferson County board president Robert White is running for state representative.

White announced his campaign for the Republican nomination in Southern Illinois' 115th district in Mt. Vernon and Carbondale Wednesday.

While has been Jefferson County Board Chair since 2010. He says his experience in government and the military have prepared him for a bigger role.

"I paid my way through school using the G.I. bill while working full time at the VA hospital," says White. "I've never been afraid of hard work. I learned discipline to a great degree in the military, and that has bled over."

Republican Mike Bost of Murphysboro has represented the 115th district since 1995. Bost is now running for congress in the 2014 election.
