West Frankfort Working to Fix Alert Sirens

By Nick Hausen

WEST FRANKFORT -- West Frankfort is having problems with its storm warning sirens. The city discovered the problem during a test.

The siren system isn't receiving the signal sent from the dispatch center. Crews are working on a short term fix as they search for a permanent solution.

West Frankfort officials are urging residents to have a backup plan for receiving storm warnings.

"What we're wanting the residents to do is use their local media, news channels, weather radios, with new technology, cell phones, Nixle alerts," explained West Frankfort Fire Chief Jody Allen.

To get Nixle alerts on your phone, text your zip code to 888-777.

You can also get severe weather alerts from the News 3 Weather Team on Facebook and Twitter.
