Walking to Honor Those Who've Served

By WSIL Reporter

CARBONDALE -- The Fraternal Order of Eagles honored veterans Monday by taking part in the Walk Across America.

About two dozen people walked from the Eagles Post to Rural King and then to Turley Park. The event is part of a nationwide effort to show support for the troops and the sacrifices they've made.
"Its basically to recognize those who didn't come home. Its really a memorial to them. Those of us who were lucky enough to come home, we don't want to forget those who didn't," Steve Sanders said.
The Walk Across America has been going for more than a decade. This is the first year the Eagles in Carbondale took part. They hope to have a much bigger turnout next year.
