WILLIAMSON CO. -- A traffic accident caused a power outage for some Williamson County residents Monday.

It happened around 8:30 a.m. Monday on Route 37 at Curie Lane north of Marion.

Illinois State Police say Melissa S. Stein, 32, of Johnston City, was southbound on Route 37 when she swerved to avoid a vehicle stopped in the road. Stein's car went off the right side of the road and hit a utility pole, knocking it over.

Stein was taken to Herrin Hospital.

The downed pole caused a brief power outage for some Southeastern Illinois Electric customers.
