Timothy Chamness Scholarship Created at Rend Lake College
INA -- The family of a Franklin County man killed in a mining accident has established an endowment in his name.
The Timothy Keith Chamness Memorial Scholarship was created with the help of the Rend Lake College Foundation and Knight Hawk Coal. Beginning next fall, the $60,000 endowment will be used to help six students annually who are enrolled in the Mining Technology program at the college.
Chamness, 28, of Royalton, was killed in February in an accident at Knight Hawk's Prairie Eagle South Mine.
"We decided that we want to keep Tim's name and memory alive in the form of a scholarship. We want to help the children of the Rend Lake College district and many more students in the future," said his father Jim Chamness during the RLC Foundation annual dinner.
