Three Franklin County Men Set for Jury Trial
BENTON -- It was a busy Wednesday in the Franklin County courthouse where several high profile cases had hearings.
The fate of three men will soon be decided by a jury of their peers. One is accused of holding up two Franklin County businesses while the other two are charged with killing a Christopher man.
Timothy Curwick, 28, of West Frankfort and Dustin Mandrell, 18, of Christopher made quite an entrance into the Franklin County courthouse Wednesday as their family and friends yelled love and support.
Each face involuntary manslaughter and aggravated battery charges. Both men pled not guilty in court. They're accused of beating, kicking and choking Scott Macer, of Christopher, and killing him.
Maceri was found unresponsive last month at his girlfriend's apartment in Christopher.
Also in court Wednesday was 52-year-old Kent Kellerman, of Thompsonville. He pled not guilty to aggravated and armed robbery.
In January, police say surveillance video caught Kellerman robbing the Banterra Bank on West Oak Street in West Frankfort.. They say he didn't show a weapon but indicated he had one.
A month before that, Benton Police charged Kellerman with robbing Vickee's Card Shop. In that hold up, he's accused of threatening an employee with scissors and demanding money to help feed his family.
All three men are scheduled for jury trials starting April 8.
