SIU to Name New President Monday

By WSIL Reporter

CARBONDALE -- Southern Illinois University will introduce its new president next week.

The university's board of trustees is set to make the announcement Monday afternoon on the Edwardsville campus.
The new president will take over for Glenn Poshard, who's set to retire in June.  Poshard has led the university for nine years and chaired the board of trustees for several years prior to that.
A 24-member search committee has been working for months to find Poshard's replacement.  The group was made up of administrators, staff, students and community leaders from the SIU Carbondale and Edwardsville campuses.
The university's new administrator will face several major challenges, including dwindling enrollment on the flagship Carbondale campus and reduced state funding. SIU Carbondale enrolled fewer than 18,000 students last fall, down from more than 21,500 students 10 years ago.
