SIU Students Compete in 48 Hour Film Competition
CARBONDALE -- Folks in Carbondale may have seen a few film crews around town on Saturday. Groups of SIU film students were rushing to create movies within a 48-hour time span.
The SIU cinematography program has been hosting a 48 hour film festival for the past three years. Within those two days, students have to write, cast, shoot, and edit the movies. This year, it began Friday evening at five o'clock.
Students involved say they find it extremely challenging, but very rewarding.
"You have to really focus on every single aspect of the film, every single part of it, it seems like," explains student Tom Kendall.
Marla Schulz says, "Everyone's kind of scrambling and at the end, you see all this awesome stuff that they were able to do in two days."
Making it even more challenging, the students are given a random idea for a prop, character, or line that must be incorporated into their movie.
