SIU Officially Opens New Student Services Building
CARBONDALE -- The SIU administration took advantage of the Homecoming crowd Saturday to unveil its new Student Services building.
There was a ribbon-cutting ceremony immediately after the homecoming parade to officially open the building. The new Student Services building will be the place to go for students who need help with advisement, financial aid, jobs, and graduate information. Those services were previously spread out across the campus.
Chancellor Rita Cheng says homecoming was the perfect weekend to invite students, parents and alumni to tour the building.
"We wanted to make sure that we could have as many people as possible enjoy seeing the inside of the new building. And we also wanted to be able to thank students and parents for financing this building," she says.
The Student Services construction cost the university about $36.6 million. It was paid for using student fees.
