Running For a Cause in Murphysboro
MURPHYSBORO -- Hundreds of runners got to stretch out their legs in Murphysboro Saturday morning for a bright and colorful fundraising event.
It was part of the You Are My Sunshine 5K run in honor of Racheal Jamison. She passed away last year of childhood cancer at the age of two.
Participants of all ages were decked out in white when they began the run, but they finished with more of a tie-dyed look. Volunteers powdered the runners with various colors at color stations set up along the race route.
Race organizer Brittany Thies says the run is a way to have fun, remember Rachael, and help other kids battling cancer.
"She just inspired me to do more for St. Louis Children's hospital and help any way I can to raise money for them, and to raise awareness for childhood cancer."
The proceeds from the 5K will go to the St. Louis Children's hospital Cancer Research fund.
