MURPHYSBORO -- There was a special landing at the Southern Illinois Airport on Wednesday.

Service vehicles lined the runway to salute retiring aviation instructors David NewMyer and Keith Mortag as they landed. That was followed by a huge reception.

The two say the aviation industry has been through a lot of changes during their time at SIU, and they've enjoyed sharing their knowledge.

"This probably was my last flight in an SIU airplane as department chair so yeah bittersweet for me too, but you know still good," says NewMyer. "It's been a great career."

"It's undescribable," adds Mortag. "SIU has offered me opportunities, its not just talk, I'm sincerely gracious for my job."

Both pilots have both spent more than 25 years at SIU.
