Renovations Underway for Bottom Dollar Grocery Stores
WSIL -- Renovations are underway to reopen two grocery stores in southern Illinois.
Bottom Dollar Cost Plus is moving into the old Mad Pricer store in Herrin and the old Kroger store in Du Quoin.
The local chain will be a little different. Products are labeled at cost, and customers will simply add 10 percent to their bill at checkout.
Owner Tom Schmutz already uses the format at a store in Lebanon, Illinois.
"Most families are starved for time," said Schmutz. "They don't have time to go around four or five different stores to get the best possible prices. So what we've developed is a format of a store that kind of takes that out of the equation."
Both stores will offer fresh produce and have meat cutting departments.
The Herrin location is scheduled to open in March. Schmutz plans to open the he Du Quoin location in May.
