Rally Against Prison Overcrowding Dangers
JOHNSON CO. -- A local group rallied Saturday afternoon against the dangers of prison overcrowding.
My Brother's Keeper was created in 2013 after the Tamm's Correctional Center was shut down. They met for their latest rally near the prisons in Vienna.
The group has an active petition calling on lawmakers to reopen Tamm's. Founder Marsha Griffin says they have seen a lot of growth over the past year.
"I knew I couldn't just sit back and do nothing," said Griffin. "I had to spring into action, and it's really blossomed and grown in ways I never could have imagined."
Griffin says they are even getting international support. Correctional officers from Ireland, the UK, and Australia have been sending in videos.
