Pulaski Hosts Pecan Bonanza
PULASKI -- Folks in Pulaski County are trying on a new festival, hoping to make it an annual one. They're calling it Pecan Bonanza. It included a parade through downtown Pulaski, a cook-off , plenty of vendors, and bands to listen to.
A Meridian High School Civics class came up with the idea after they wrote to the mayor about having a community festival similar to ones in other counties. They ended up with a great civics lesson.
"This project helps students understand that the little things, the day to day things is what their local officials take care of, whether its planning a festival, or fixing the roads, creating new businesses, to help them get a better understanding that it's them and their community who helps these things become created," explains social studies teacher Charlie Bassett.
All the money raised during the event will help pay for new park equipment and other improvements around the county.
