MARION -- Folks gathered in Marion Friday evening to honor Glenn Poshard.

The Southern Illinois Miners game was a tribute to the former educator, lawmaker and SIU President. After a short ceremony, Poshard threw out the first pitch. Some folks who attended also got Glenn Poshard bobbleheads.

Poshard said leading his alma mater, SIU, was the highlight of his career.

Part of every ticket sold was donated to his foundation for abused and neglected children. Jo Poshard says the goal is to make at least 50 new counselors available for kids by next year.

"The day to day needs that abused children have, need to be met. And we serve as a bridge for people, and try to fill the gap, so that when agencies cannot get money from the state, cannot get federal money, they know to call us," Jo Poshard said.
