Paducah Police Ask for Help Identifying Theft Suspect
WSIL -- Police are looking for a man they say has stolen credit cards in western Kentucky and southern Illinois.
The thefts occurred on November 20 at West Kentucky Community and Technical College in Paducah and John A. Logan College in Carterville. Paducah Police say the man stole wallets from purses in the personnel offices at both colleges.
According to investigators, the man then used the stolen credit cards at Best Buy, Dillard's and Murphy Oil. Police say he also bought gift cards at Walmart locations in Paducah and Carbondale that were later redeemed in Louisville, Kentucky.
"This suspect is very efficient in the way he locates victims, executes the theft, and maximizes his dollar by making fast purchases on expensive items before the cards are reported stolen," stated Paducah Police Detective Matt Smith.
The man is believed to be driving a dark-colored Hyundai Sonata GLS, but investigators say he is careful to park so the car's license plate is not captured on surveillance video.
Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to call the Paducah Police Department at (270) 444-8550 or Crime Stoppers at (270) 443-TELL.
