By WSIL Manager

CARBONDALE -- A Carbondale School is celebrating its 40th anniversary.

Carbondale New School held a back to school lunch today. Parents, faculty, and alumni were invited to come out and see the progress the school has made through the years.

The private grade school was started by a group of families that wanted to offer an alternative approach to education, focused on individual learning and incorporating outdoor learning.

New School Director Amanda Sheridan says, "You can't describe the vibe you get when you come into the grounds and into the's definitely family like."
This year the school added a Certified Nature Explorer Classroom and a music program. New School usually has around 60 students in kindergarten through 8th grades each year..
