Murphysboro Police Commend Officer for Heroism

By WSIL Reporter

JACKSON CO. -- Murphysboro Police are commending an officer for heroic actions. Benjamin Jones was the first to arrive at a fire Monday afternoon on Spruce Street.

A woman outside said someone was still in the house. Jones kicked in the front door, crawled through the home, and found a man passed out in a bedroom. He dragged the man from the home, saving his life.
It's the second life saving effort by Murphysboro Police this year. An officer used CPR to save someone at Lake Murphysboro back in May.
